Warrior Tarinat – Regine Müller

Here is a story of Regine Müller, a field archeologist from Germany, who has attended Winter Warrior Finland several times. Coming from a place with only little snow during wintertime, Winter Warrior Finland was amazing opportunity to have a full Finnish winter experience while running through deep snow and frozen lakes.

Sportswise Müller would call herself “jack of all trades and master of none”. She has done various sports including for instance mountain biking, climbing and running, which eventually lead her to participate in OCRs. Her friend and training partner Julia Meyer had her join their first OCR event together in 2010 and after that, they started to participate regularly. “I enjoyed most of the obstacles and had fun running with people, who wanted to have a good time. I am not very ambitious, hence the motivation for me was basically to see, if I can make it, preferably somehow gracefully.” Müller described.

At some point, Müller decided to have a little break with OCR and waited for something new and exciting. She came across Winter Warrior Finland, and she was instantly sold. Müller and Meyer participated first time together in 2018. She described their experience: “The first Winter Warrior was the most amazing race and nature experience I have ever had. There was an incredible amount of effort and dedication put into the race by organizers and volunteers.” Müller felt that the race with all the additional activities formed a warm-hearted community, welcoming them to attend year after another.

One of the memorable moments during Winter Warrior Finland race in Ylläs was when me and Julia were standing on top of Kesänki. For a short moment we were rewarded with 360° views over the area. We were totally overwhelmed by the site and nature and just pausing the race and enjoying the moment” she thinks back their first Winter Warrior race.

Müller recommends everyone to participate: “Go for it! The races I participated in, there was enough time to finish, even if you are not competitive. The races were well organized, and the crew was very attentive, and everyone was friendly, helpful and supportive. If you have never done a race in deep snow, you will have the most amazing experience you would not want to miss out on. I did not wear any special clothing in regard of the snow and as it turned out, that was well enough.

Müller encourages everyone to try the sport and states that it is suitable also for those, who don’t feel that competitive and just want to experience something new and have some fun.
